Data Visualization Guideline
Submitted by ankur on Sat, 09/12/2009 - 17:11I created this data visualization guideline for a company which needs regular data visualization for printing and presentation purpose, their requirement specially demands different charts and graphs. This visualization guideline is not a complete solution but contextual one rather, I am very thankful towards the company for letting me post this guideline publicly.
I hope this guideline will be of some help to starters.

Dazzling Darkness
Submitted by ankur on Tue, 02/03/2009 - 15:10Have you walk past the New parliamentary zoo (Former BICC) at evening or night, the only place on earth where Parliament and UN Mission share the office on same compound. If you haven't then you must try once, it's a lifetime experience. In the darkest hour of night while whole city is plunged into black blanket of Nature, nurtured by beloved Nepal Electricity Authority's load shedding, you'd actually be dazzled.... Ya dazzled, not by stars burning tons of fuels of their own (I am jealous) but by array of halogen lamps installed round the compound in "One lamp per tree" fashion, most amazing part is other three sides of compound don't have this privilege. Ahh!... That might be obvious because adjacent to the wall there is mighty UNMIN's HQ (or office).

Ok, long story short, I am extremely jealous and furious. Jealous because at the same time we are bound to bear the darkness inside our dwelling staring at the electric heater in chilling cold and sheer darkness. Angry because The actual mission of UNMIN feels like infuriating us by showing the light at our face. the NEA always barks about CFL's and asks us to shutdown our heaters and appliances to save electricity, at the same time the 1000s of wattage of electricity glowing in halogen lamps seems sooo.. ethical to them.
Passing by the way I saw one fat officer inside the well lit room of UNMIN's office, listening/watching something on his cellphone. Don't know why but I strongly believe he was listening to Fire Water burn.
I want to paint
Submitted by ankur on Sat, 01/03/2009 - 16:06I wish I were painter, more like artist who shapes his imagination flowing from his brush. I know that I don't know how to paint but this never stops my perceptive canvas being played with color of my own imagination. Here is what I'd paint:
Man is born free, but everywhere he is in chains. Jean Jacques Rousseau might have forgotten about umbilical cord but I want it intact in my painting, the basic object in my painting is a new born baby with umbilical cord still attached to him.
World starts conspiring against her even before she gets to see the light. World has already decided her destiny and fate, her freedom are confined by social, economical, cultural, taboos hired by forefather and doctrine injected by social elitism. I'd paint red/orange gloomy background and some figures around the child , all figures raising their hands so as to hold the child and keep him from falling, but on closer inspection the nerves from each hands appears to fuse within body of child depicting never demystifying knots knitted by society.
I'd emphasize three figures specially. First one would be a lady beautiful by appearance but clearly visible be the ugliness, lust and emotional crisis she hives. next figure would be a middle aged man weathered from rigorous daily work, but still glowing with dreams and hopes he have towards his future. Lastly I'd paint a silhouette figure in a distant but glowing with faint blue light, emitting from his body would be the rays of light producing cracks in gloomy background revealing tranquil blue lights from some chips and cracks.
Lastly I will name this paint as "Perpetual Sin".
sharing party : Satasat GB*
Submitted by ankur on Wed, 12/24/2008 - 15:30WoW! I totally enjoyed today's program, Instead of writing much about program I just want to show you few snaps. By the way we transferred about 80GB of data at total (ujwal's sata drive didn't work otherwise it would have at least doubled). Total time we spent there was 2.5hr so total transfer rate was 9.1MBps (not so bad). We spent total RS1800 for coffee and snacks so data transfer cost was 45.5MB/Rs (bit expensive :) ). here are some snaps of the event.
tweet tweet!
Submitted by ankur on Fri, 12/19/2008 - 07:17Do you use twitter? well I do, and to manage and view all tweets efficiently I have installed twitter plugins called twitterfox to my browser (of course firefox). But many time while firefox is in background, twitterfox just displays the messages and I miss them while they are hot, while looking at preference of twitterfox I found that notification sound could be enabled and any sound of choice could be used. I thought using real tweet would be awesome, hence searched the net for free sound samples, found one, trimmed and adjusted the pitch level to get the tweet of the bird.It is pretty awesome. If you not irritated :) and want to use the sound, please right click and save it.
or download your favourite format here.
Yomari at last!
Submitted by ankur on Tue, 12/16/2008 - 04:03A week long trace-down and 51 minutes of agony inside KIMFF might not be comparable at any sense, neither does multiple twitter and facebook call yield a single positive result apart from ujjwal's yomari song. But we did it, much like warriors with infinite energy programmed to treasure hunt. We received a reward at end, savor scale might have measured small turmoil but it was complete trance. Something unexplainable through words, maybe this picture will represent our feelings.

mysterious cloud
Submitted by ankur on Tue, 12/02/2008 - 15:14yesterday was spectacular view of smiling sky with Venus, Jupiter and Moon. Hoping for similar treat I gazed at the sky which featured nothing in particular, clear sky with visible stars and small pattern of cloud. Bit disappointed I was returning home, after about 5min of walk with my friends I noticed something unusual , the sky was intersected by arc of long shooting cloud. Don't know if this phenomenon is normal but it was mysterious to me.
